Just built my new computer
On the Mac side I have a dual 2.5GHz G5, 5.5GB DDR SDRam, dual ViewSonic 19" monitors, about 1.3 TB of HD space. This is a home system that stores music, video, movies, photos, etc. I've been a Mac user since 1984 although there is a cheap XP machine for a few things the Mac won't run such as Garmin software and BridgeBase.

Thanks for the tip Colin. Think I'll load "Vegas" first, as Photoshop and PageMaker have always been tough software to master, at least for me.

I got the Intel instead of Athlon, even though the AMD has a 1Gig FSB, because they have a tendency to run slightly hotter than the Intel. I've got a computer enclosure that doesn't allow as much airflow as it should.

On my last computer I got a little more carried away and added water cooling. I got it all from Danger Den. Cooling both the processor and the video card alowed me to over clock the cpu and run the video card full out. Now I honestly don't really need any of the extra performance, but I seem to overbuild alot of things.

I was running my cpu at 17% greater clock speed with no problems and if fixed temperature issues with some games when running the highest level of video performance, so yes it works. As for the sound it is some what quieter as I can turn off some of the extra fans on my case.
Actually, guys, you have to be careful... Some of the latest chips and chipsets can't be overclocked. That said, the better you power, cool, and keep your hardware clean, the longer it'll last.
Neat article I stumbled across today:
