Keeping parents in their home

I've decided to have an electrician come out. My dad is concerned about the drain on the existing electrical system in the house (it's old). Better to be safe than sorry. The stairlift peeps aren't concerned and they do have a lot of experience installing these things. But they aren't electricians. They just need a couple of existing outlets to run a wire to to charge up the batteries.

^ Thanks. But it makes my life easier, too, in the long run.

My Grandmothers chair lifts run on rechargeable battery pack that are plugged into a standard 120V outlet.
I had the same concerns about her house as it only has a 60 Amp service to it (Modern homes have 200+ Amp electric services). The existing 60A service was just fine.
These modern chair lift use very little power to charge the batteries. During power outages the batteries will still power the lift and will operate up to 8 up / down cycles.
The existing electrical outlets should be more than sufficient unless the closest outlet is over 15 ft away from the bottom of the stairs.
Hope that helps.
It's really no different than charging up a childs Power Wheels toy.

Good info. Yep...that is my impression, too. It should be no problem.

My uncle just passed away yesterday, he was 99 year's old, he would have been 100 in November. He lived in his home, which his bedroom was on the second floor until he was 96. He broke a hip and after that, he went steadily downhill. I haven't seen him for 3 year's and was looking forward to attending his 100th birthday. One thing about my uncle, he as always cheerful and stayed active. He belonged to a senior's dance club well into his 90's.

I really believe that is critical to a long life.
I don't know which is Ying and which is Yang though.
it's tough to stay chipper and happy when you're not healthy.
but happy people tend to stay healthier.

^ Sorry to hear about your uncle, but he lived a long and, it seems, pretty good life. We are putting off signing the contract for the stairlifts until after my dad sees his orthopedist tomorrow for an x-ray, etc. He fell a couple of weeks ago and his hip still hurts. I expect the stairlifts will be even more necessary now. The electrician came out yesterday and said there are no issues with the circuits.
