I would have fit in, too. And would have been fashionable with my Madras plaid swim Shorts.

I'm a bit awe-struck as to how slim American's were in the <50's, 60's, and 70's. What has happened to us? Have our eating habits changed or is it a result of growth hormones in our food or...?

OMG, thanks for pointing that out. Back then that was my all-time favorite style of swimming trunks. They were plaid on the outside and red on the inside with splits, so I always had them turned up to show the contrast. Got'a look good if going to Ft. Lauderdale or Daytona Beach for the break.

I don't know about you but for me its been a lifetime of abusing my body with the wrong food and drinks and loving every bit of it - - it has to catch up sometime.

I think ppl were a bit more active, in those days. Less couch potato types? Also, maybe the women's clothes accented thin waists?

Back in the early 70s my cousin Jim & I were on a road trip from LA to northern California. We stopped at the Andersen's in Buellton for some split pea soup. They had an all-you-can-eat price, so I had 9 bowls and Jim had 11.
We were in my 1963 VW bug, which I wish I still had.

And they are all young. I remember looking like that in 1960. I didn't notice any skimpy bikinis or thongs.
