Zemke Crushes at Mid-Ohio.Zemke put on an absolutely dominating display to claim the second triumph of his young Superbike career on Sunday at Mid-Ohio.

The Californian grabbed the holeshot from pole and would go basically unchallenged from that point on. Zemke had nearly a second in hand following the opening circuit -- an advantage he would only continue to build upon lap after lap, breaking his opposition with a string of inch-perfect laps in the low

Why does a guy have to die before people will respect his accomplishments? That statement is not ment as a flame. He has been in the front row for 50% of the F1 races he's entered and he has like 83 wins! The great Jackie Stewart only entered 79 races, if I recall correctly. MS sets records every race he enters because he still has the desire to win at all costs even when he's been on top as long as he has. I suspect some people felt the same way about Babe Ruth. I have followed F1 from the days of Phil Hill up to the current and Schummy is truly something special. Unlike so many who wish his downfall, I enjoy watching real history in the making.

I guess his detractors want to root for the "under dog"? I have also enjoyed watching history in the making.

The S brothers are "NOT" human I tell you. Last year after their mother fell and hit her head and died (unexpectantly) They went out and qualified after her fall and then after she died on Saturday night, they finished P1 & P2 on Sunday, knowing that the funeral would be mid week. I think that this is the perfect example of someone being able to compartmentalize their brain and concentrate on what they need to do.

Michael Schumacher has accomplished his current level of success for the most part by assembling, motivating and maintaining the highest-achieving organization in the history of motorsports. Ever since he was first recruited to Ferrari from Benetton in 1996 he has built a team made up of guys and girls like himself. People who have been able to achieve, improve and most of all to stay on year after year and keep the important momentum going. Few leave the core of the Scuderia and all are direct products of Michael and reflections of his values. Really. And oh yeah he is a brilliant driver.

Other teams have floundered when drivers, management and/or designers are lured by the limelight and dollars they are offered elsewhere. Adrian Newey and Mike Gascoyne come to mind. Teams that persecute drivers (Williams take a bow) pay the price in performance as the years unfold. Mercurial drivers (JPM) take their business elsewhere and lose the support and enthusiasm of their team while they fulfill contractual obligations. And teams fall over themselves in a breathless technological lunge to leap even with the red cars (McLaren MP4-19).

Some say Ferrari outspends everyone but Toyota and it is true. But clearly if the others had the money they would spend it and would still fall short. Ferrari did not get here in a year or two and will not fall in a year or two until long after Michael and his leadership go away. Toyota spends its huge budget in Germany where labor laws prevent it from making the personnel moves it needs to stay efficient and effective. And expecting Ralf to accomplish what Michael has is just plain absurd. All credit to Willi Weber for selling that load of soap suds to Toyota.

This is not necessarily my brilliant deduction of the F1 scene. Those of us who rise early on Sundays to watch the coverage on Speed know the words of Peter Windsor. As a serious F1 student I read his many articles and columns in F1 Racing magazine. It is here I see his very wise and experienced views on the sport. Check it out and see if he doesn't make a load of sense of the complex world Bernie has created.

Bob, well said. No question, winning in motor sports is a team effort and at the highest level's - always has been (ie, Clark & Chapman, Stewart & Terrell, Senna & Honda, etc.). Both must be at the top of their game to get a streak of wins. Schummy is none the less a brilliant driver. In addition to his car handling skills he is so track smart it's unreal. He knows when to be patient, when to save the car, when to be aggressive, and when to drive all out. It's always amazing to me how much he was aware of during the race when they have the post race interviews. I know he gets reports from the pits but still he is something else.
