Here is Phil Askey's review of the new Sony H-1. 12x optic zoom, great color and image stabilization in a 5 megapixel camera. It can be used as a point & shoot, but it also has all the goodies. I got one a few months ago and it's the most fun digicam I've used.
dpreview is a great source of information no matter what you're looking for in a digital cam. Reviews, news and lots of forums. Check it out.

I looked at that one It's a very nice camera. It's very similar to what I am considering, just slightly larger but it weighs twice as much - 21 oz ver 11 oz.

dpreview is an excellent site and I have been reading every FZ5 thread I can find on it going back 8 months.

S1997, thanks for the positive feedback on the FZ5, that is encouraging. Your Nikon is a heavyweight (by my standards) at 24 oz but takes great photos.

Doug, the Kodak hits the scale at 20 oz, even higher then the Canon S2 I considered at 18 oz.

I realize most camera buffs think I am placing too much value on the weight but they don't have to live with my pain when things flare up.

Based on the feedback I quess I have probably considered most of what's out there and have talked myself into the Pan Fuzzzy 5.

Here's a collection of shots taken with it by the reviewer for anyone who's wondering: http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/?gallery=p...nicfz5_samples/

It would be great if it had manual focus but with the low price tag, like the S2000, it appears to be a bargin for what I am looking for. I hope I'll be as happy after the purchase..... either tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks all.

dlq04,

Will you update your opinions about this camera after you get some experiences with it. If they are positives, I will buy this point and shoot camera for my wife.

Thanks

Dave,
Hope you enjoy your new camera. When you get it, I would be interested in your posting some pics of the driver's arm rest modifications that you were installing on your S2000. At SF05 you showed me some of your progress, but you were still working on the design. Since I have a lot of arm and elbow discomfort (L and R) on long drives, I am always looking for some kind of remedy.

Jim,

Will do. The center consol is finished now as well. In fact, I was showing it off this past Saturday to the students & teachers at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. There was a design manager from Honda of Calif there also. We had five other S2000s and had a great time for about 3 hours with car inspections, discussing the pros, cons, and what we would like to see in the future, and seeing some of the preliminary workups. Later we will go back and see the clay models.

TR, will do.

There's a local track event this weekend. I haven't decided for sure if I'm going to enter the S2000 yet - Due to the late fee & I am disappointed with my tires. My best friend will be there in his Vintage MGA racer, so I may go & try out the camera.

BTW, it is not a 'pocket' camera and it does have lots of controls and options. I read one reviewer who thought it was too complicated to use, although it's got automatic modes as well. As for myself, I think it's time I learn a little about white balance & all that stuff.
