Default Louis Zamperini RIP

Louis Zamperini died today. A real hero. Interesting book on his WW!! career. I think Patty met him, right Patty.

I think the label hero is used too loosely these days, but it really applied to this soldier.

I did not know much about him till I read the book about him. One heck of an individual, one amazing life story. May he rest in peace.

Louie was a real hoot, in person. I didn't speak to him but I immensely enjoyed listening to him when he spoke before me and our other volunteers at Saddleback Hospital in Laguna Hills, CA. I have photos of him from that day. I just happened to have finished reading his book a month before he spoke.

I took these photos on Sept. 13, 2011. It's just amazing that a man who lived through drifting 47 days on a raft in the Pacific after his plane crashed, and being a prisoner of war for more than two years in Japan, could live on and make it to 97 years-old.

What is the name of the book. Gotta read it after seeing on the news what this amazing man went through in his life. A true inspiration and hero from the Greatest Generation.

I listened to a story about him on NPR this morning. They said he carried the Olympic torch in Japan in 1998. He would have been 81 years old then!
