Default Lucky to be alive - Vette gets high marks

Driver , Vette

A 21 year old driver in a 2016 Corvette crashed last May on Huron River Drive (a park with a 35 mph speed limit in SE Michigan). Records now show he was going 125 mph seconds prior to the crash, police say. A half-second prior to impact, the Corvette was traveling at 93 miles per hour, according to the car's event data recorder, the report says. Amazingly he and his girlfriend passenger “lived”.... but with several broken bones. That's impressive. No one normally lives hitting a tree that big at that speed!

The report did not go into detail on what broken bones he had. His 17 year old friend suffered two broken femurs, a lower leg fracture, a broken orbital bone and a broken nose. Still amazing to me.

Years ago the wife and I were out driving around, top down, looking for smooth winding roads. We came across a Viper wrapped around a tree just like that Vette. We were the first on scene, both driver and passenger were already out of the car and stumbling around. A scary scene for sure.

Those trees just don't care.

I can only imagine how much fun that Vette would have been on a proper racetrack.

ps: Is that Pickachu I see face down on the ground?

I almost don't believe they survived. You will never see a picture of my Vette looking anything like that (unless it's stolen) because I don't drive like an idiot. That Vette is the same generation, C7, as mine. It has so much power it can get away from you in a big hurry. I see pictures like that regularly in the Corvette Forum.

^ I agree. He scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19 for a preliminary examination; the felony charge he faces carries a punishment of up to five years in prison and/or a fine $1,000 to $5,000.

They were fortunate indeed, what wasn't destroyed on impact appears to have cut up by the Jaws of Life.
