Thanks for all the responses.

After all this discussion, I just realized that I cannot use magicJack. The reason is that the automatic sensor unit for my implanted cardiac defibrillator MUST be connected to a phone line. Also, the magicJack unit must be connected to the USB port of my computer. However, my computer with magicJack is not in my bedroom where I have the defibrillator sensor unit.

So, magicjack won't work for me.
