I play a game called Upwords with the +1 and my family. It's a variation on Scrabble and very fun. Anywho, when you make a word, your opponents can challenge it, but if they do, and the word is in the dictionary, they lose their turn. I have put down a couple of words I thought were spelled right but they weren't. But they weren't challenged, either, so I got away with it.

The English language has been massacred so often in recent times that it's a wonder anyone is still paying attention. You can thank instant messaging for alot of it, since everything is contracted ("ur" for "your" AND "you're").
Deb, should we start Spellers Anonymous. "my name is John and I'm a spelling snob".

I tend to be a stickler too, especially when speaking or writing publicly.

(I know Debs is grinning).

While you're at it - the difference between your and you're is useful as is the difference between there, their, and they're.

It's and its - well I just can't be anal about those words.
Isn't this more of a grammar issue? I gotta get out the old copy of Strunk & White in addition to Websters to post here....

So I guess my question is, " Are girls better spellers than boys?" [/QUOTE]

Based on the results of the National Spelling Bee since 1925 the answer is yes. There have been 34 males and 39 female champions. There were eight names that I could not guess the gender of?
