Default Memory - How's Yours

In March 2020 we brought home a puppy. At some point a month or two later we caught her chewing on a soft bound garden book on a lower book shelf. This special book had all of my wife's notes in it about the flowers around our yard as well as being a good resource. So naturally she put it up so the dog could not get to it. Fast forward to now when it's planting season again. Both of us have searched the house from top to bottom twice. Every room, every cabinet, every drawer, every closet, and have given up! It's gone. Vanished. We still have the dog but no garden book!

I think Roxy found the book and ate the whole thing.

Dogs can outsmart humans. Your memory is fine, your shelves are too short. Check under a bed for the remaining evidence.

Did she re-cover the book with a different material?

I often have people telling me that I have a great memory and they can't believe how I remember names and details and phone numbers from the past. But when I'm working in the garage I can never find the 10 mm socket that I am frequently using, I place it down somewhere and it takes me forever to find it, so frustrating.

My hmmm story

In my office, I have a few spare tools I keep. There's a screwdriver, a small pair of pliers, flashlight and a small measuring tape. I didn't buy it, its branded and somehow it's in my collection. So as I'm working on the light setup, and doing some measuring for the model display I'm thinking about, I suddenly can't find it.

I'm at Home Depot getting some stuff, so I pick up a small Craftsman 12' tape for like $5. I get home, I put it on the shelf, get on the PC, turn my head to the left to grab something from the printer, and there's my old one, just sitting there staring at me. WTF. It's bright yellow, how could I not have seen that?

Separate question, how many tape measures are too many? I think I have 3 or 4 full size ones, 2 of these smaller ones, plus a sewing type fabric one. Unlike a pen or reading glasses, you don't really need one in every room, do you?
