In memory of our loved ones
Since so many of us are, or have been, dealing with the loss of loved ones and friends, I thought it might be good to have a memorial thread where those who want to can post. I hope peeps don't consider this morbid. I think it could be inspiring. Let's find out. I thought of it when several of us had to forego attending Spring Fling after our mothers became ill - Dave (dlq04), Rick Hesel, and myself. Sadly, Dave's mother passed away. My thoughts are with him and his family.
I don't think it's morbid at all.
Again, my sympathy to Dave and his family on the loss of his mom.
Rick and I still have our Moms, but we are losing his to Alzheimer's.
We lost both Dads within six weeks of each other, but they are still with us.
Rick's Dad was an avid gardner as is Rick. I'm sure he'd approve of our yard. And I can see my Dad smiling at me as I enjoy my granddaughter and soon a grandson.

Unfortunately, death is a part of life, that all of us have to learn to deal with but in most cases are never taught how to deal with it.
I have always been perplexed why the five basic facts of life are not taught in our public school systems?
Pregnancy and Birth
Interpersonal relationships and sex
Money management
Taxes
Death planning and grief management
Perhaps, I am being naive.
But to my way of thinking, these issues effect all of us in our lifetimes. I do not understand why these subjects are NOT taught.

Probably because no two people would agree with the lesson plan.
Even though everything that I mentioned is common to all of us. So, rather than try to deal with it we just ignore it? "That is a smart plan?"

I agree with Bill, but I think the issue is much bigger than no two people being able to agree.
We can't even get agreement on the teaching of evolution.
My best friend died Sunday night. He was 43 and had gone to the hospital for a simple elective out-patient procedure.
The procedure required him to be face down.
He got a local during and at some point they noticed him turning a color. They then noted his heart rate had dropped and sometime later that he was not breathing.
They rolled him over to 'bring him' back.
No one knows how long he was not breathing but it was long enough for him to later be declared brain dead and after several days his familiy and friends agreed to disconnect the machines.
He was pretty well known and little has appeared in the press.
I suspect after this weekend the news will leak out. Everyone had hoped to complete the service(s) before the press swoops in.
We miss him and are still in shock.
I deal with a death every week on average but this is close to home.
