Microsoft & Sun
Did you see they came to an agreement and ended their long running feud? Sun pays MS $1.6 billion. How do you all feel about these 2 former adversaries getting in bed together?

As long as Sun maintains a viable alternative to Windows I'm OK with it. If they cooperate on technology standards we win. That is how the Internet got built. If I can run .net on Solaris and J2EE on Windows, I have the best of both worlds.
If Sun stops producing SPARC processors and Solaris operating systems as an alternative to Wintel we all loose, even if we don't use Sun stuff. Without a viable alternative to the monopoly we'd all be in trouble. Innovation would stop. Prices would rise.

We're one of Microsoft's top 5 customers, and we're having to spend beaucoup dollars to identify and remove any and all MSJRE dependancies from every application in the enterprise, both home grown and vended. Problem is, in a lot of the vended apps, the vendors do not know if there are dependancies, so we are having a major problem rectifying the situation.
We'll most likely install the Sun java runtime component, after testing everything to make sure it works.
