The only part of this thread that I understand is that Cleveland sucks. The rest of it is geek to me.

From a purely business oriented point of view, I think if you strip away most of the veneer you'd find that a very few major companies, like Microsoft and Sun, have always controlled most of the computing world. These relationships seem to come and go often, and not much seems to change. I think these companies have always had love/hate relationships. And, I think they have always cooperated/fought with each other at the same time.

The $2 billion settlement doesn't seem like a great deal of money. Not when you are dealing with companies like Microsoft. While Sun is considerably smaller, and less cash rich, $2 billion just ain't what it used to be. Just a token.

I'm not nearly as sophisticated as the rest of you when it comes to computers and I don't completely understand what all of this means. I wonder if we will really see much of a change at all.

I wonder what Microsoft has up its sleeve.
