My Civic LX (non hybrid) gets as good a mileage (either way you figure it) as the hybrid model they show as an example And it only drinks 87 grade which keeps the cost down.
Someday I am going to figure up all the money I have paid for my Civic including gas, maintenance, purchase price, etc and come up with a grand total of cost per mile. My bet is that it's VERY low despite the fact I am a maintenance fanatic

One can go to Yahoo autos and they have a cost of ownership calculator on-line that breaks down the total cost of ownership by category over the first five years of ownership.
That's cool, thanks Matt $800 in repairs in 5 years - I LOVE Honda
I bet my costs are even less than what they shows with mine being a plain old LX model My baby turns 9 in August. 140,000 trouble free miles including several K of those this winter for "S2k" events

We are in the position of having to buy a new vehicle. Our 1993 Ford Explorer (Exploder) that we bought from a trusted friend in 2000 (before the whole bad rap Exploder thing was in the media eye) for a song, largely I think because it is a five speed in the Washington / Baltimore market place has served us fairly well in the 102,000 miles that we have put on it. But it is time for it to be donated to the Salvation Army. The transmission is failing. It is darn near impossible to get into first gear when stopped or reverse for that matter. The "wisdom of using ATF in an manual transmission is beyond me. Now the RF wheel bearing is going and the clutch slave cylinder is leaking so it is time for it to go away.
In the 102,000 miles that we have own it, it has cost us more in repairs then the
miles that we put on our 1986 Civic Si
Barbara wants a Fit. After riding in Canberra's Civic EXL to the Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona I think that we (I) would be be happier with a Civic Si sedan if we can find one. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Part of my thinking is that it could be her "S" with 197 HP. I would inherit our Infiniti I-30 as my daily driver.
In retrospect: I guess that the "Exploder's" odometer only clocks 99,999 miles should have been a warning from the get go. I guess that we should be happy that we got 226,2XX miles out of it.
