^^ Preferrably, the 4x4 posts should be supported on concrete foundations or blocks. Notching the posts around the stringers will weaken the posts at that point. Yes, the stringers could be lagged to the posts to help anchor them at the bottom, but they should also be anchored into the foundation. Depending upon how wide your stairs are, you could probably move the outside stringers in, and eliminate one of the interior stringers (as long as you're using at least 2x's for stair treads). Ideally (according to OSHA), the rise and run of a stairway should total 17.5". Therefore, if you use a 10" wide tread, the riser would be 7.5".

Looks like a fun project.
p.s. You might want to add a couple "sky-hooks" to your list of tools/supplies.

treads are standard decking, 1.25 x 5.25 hence the quad stringers so they'll have about a 13 inch span.
there is 2 sets of doubled up 2 x 10's sitting on vertical 2x6's that support the center platform area which aren't in the image but I can't 'generate' additional new parts.
i'll be pretty close to the OSHA's guidelines. @ 8. x 11

so today was building day.
after getting a ton of material from the lumber yard, almost literally ( I was getting concerned about the weight in my little trailer)
we set up the laser level on the tripod and shot the heights then cut and installed the 4x4 uprights.
then popped on the carrier supports, probably could have got away with 2x6 but used 2 x 10's.
had a TOF moment
setting up the cross-members.
really can't decide if this is Gabe as supervisor or " can you hurry up I need to use the backyard."

actually have that section boxed in but my photographer decided to cook dinner
we didn't complain.
