My poor Si
I love my Si. It's a great little car and it's been quite a workhorse. One son learned to drive with it and two sons learned how to drive a manual transmission. It's moved one son into college and back, brought home furniture from IKEA, driven me to work every day, gone through blizzards, hurricanes and windstorms and never complained. All it ever asks for is a tank full of gas and a little oil every now and again.
Last Wednesday I lent the Si to Adam to take on a day trip skiing. He didn't want to put the ski rack on his car and anyway the ski rack and my Si get along famously. Adam took my Si and I used his CR-z for the day. At about 5:30 and 25 miles from home he called me. The Si wouldn't go into gear. I had him call AAA and we had the car flat bedded into our local Honda dealer. The service department was still open when we got there. We all decided that it was the clutch.
78,000 miles isn't a lot for a clutch but I drive the car real hard, and with the things we do with it, I wasn't surprised. The service writer at the dealer assured me that they'd take down the transmission the next day, order the parts and have my Si back to me by Friday. With that I went home and let my older son know that he had to drive me to work on Thursday and Friday. He agreed and surprisingly didn't grumble too much about getting out of bed at 6:30 am.
Friday came and I got a call from the dealer. The good news was that the clutch needed to be replaced and it's done. The bad news is that now, even though the car goes into gear, the car doesn't move. Apparently, he said, there is a problem in the transmission. I wasn't too happy to hear this.
Adam did some research and found some TSBs about the transmission. That evening he took me to Honda to drop off the printouts of the TSBs and to pick up the loaner car they.agreed to let me use. My position is that this repair should be paid for by Honda, so now I'm waiting for Honda to send a rep to look at the car.
In the mean time, I'm driving the loaner, a 2012 plain vanilla Civic. If its not the most boring car ever made its easily in the top 10. I miss my Si. It's bumpy and bouncy and noisy and has a horrible ride, and I love every minute of it. They say that mans best friend is his dog, but this mans best friend is his Si. Don't get me wrong, my S2000 is a great car and I love it, but it's a garage queen, a princess. My Si is my right hand, in the trenches with me every day.
So now I wait. According to my dealer I shouldn't expect the car back before Friday and probably not before next week. I miss my Si.

Rob, I hope Honda picks up the tab for the repairs. Or sometimes they offer to share the cost of the fix - When the car is out of warranty. I have found Honda to be quite reasonable in similar situations. Best of luck with them!
Good luck, Rob...I had the primary O2 sensor replaced not long ago on my S. Turned out to be a TSB issue from 2006 that a Mid-A guy alerted me to. I pushed for a full refund on the repair, but agreed to split it.

Rob, I hope Honda does the right thing and you get your baby back soon. Generally loaners suck compared to what we are use to driving.
