My heart goes out to Carmen, I know what it was like in 98 when the wild fires went through here. Having to keep water on the roof of my house and my Mothers. Carmen you are in my prayers.
I'm hoping the winds hold the smoke off of me. We have a 4000 acre fire growing out in the glades about 40 miles E of me. The smoke gets really causitc sometimes from swamp fires.
#22 is probably the closest to our buddy. It would appear that the highway is highly congested in the northbound direction. I would assume that is from evacuees.
Hey Val, they mentioned Barefoot Landing on the news last night and if I remember correctly, that's way north of Carmen on 17, isn't it? Up by the House of Blues? I AM surprised that he hasn't posted yet. It did look pretty bad on the news. Should I gas my car up and come in from the south to rescue my little family? I'm sure he'll be checking in soon.

Thanks to all who expressed concern. We are ok so far. They are saying the fire is 50% contained but the winds are going to whip up again and it might cause the fire to move again. Yesterday there was word of a possible voluntary evac of a development about 3 miles from us. A little too close for comfort. But most of the damage thus far has been in North Myrtle Beach. The winds have kept the smoke up that way too. Where I live it has been blue skies and sunny. But you can see the smoke billowing in the distance. It looks like Mt. St. Helens as the smoke rises way up into the sky. I have a friend who lives in North Myrtle and he said it was snowing ash there. Here are some pics....
This is from the Grande Dunes development...one of the most prestigious developments on the east coast...
Four more from Grande Dunes..
All of the Barefoot Resort development was evacuated too. I'm not sure what the latest count is for homes destroyed.
I have learned a lesson from this...that I am not prepared for a quick get-away with important papers, photos, etc.
Thanks again for all the concern. I'll keep you posted. Let's hope they can keep this thing under control.
