^ I doubt it...this was a LONG time ago. The people I dealt with were older and are probably retired now. I wasn't long out of college. But it was an interesting job.
Do you mean the first Boeing SST project, back in the 70s? I thought you may have meant the HSCT project in the 90s.

I sure wouldn't take a Ferrari into Napoli traffic.

Wow Mike! It was almost like being there with your blow-by-blow. I couldn't help wonder if you'd ever considered a second career as a travel writer. The picture inserts were the bomb. I was also wondering if they'd let you onto the floor of the crater, would you have climbed down, especially after your "killy (?) is for tourist" comment that I'm still chuckling about. Awesome report. Lots of time and thought put into it. Oh, and I just love your sense of adventure and daring, especially when you're alone. You go sonny!

That would be neat, but the crater looked like a great place for poisonous gasses to build up. It must have had some vents, or it would be full of water like Crater Lake. But still, if I went down there, I would want some bottled air available.

I would definitely have gone around to the summit if that had been an option, though. I took a picture of the "No Entry" sign prohibiting that, but I didn't put it in the report.

Somehow I just knew you woulda if you coulda! I thought it was long extinct though (as in completely dead if there's such a thing geothermically). Guess not! What an adventure though. And I'm still chuckling about your pretty girl memory. Guys!

No, not at all. It erupts about once per century. None since have been as big as the 79 eruption, though.

I was going to ask if you would visit there again but I think I know the answer to that one too. I still say you should be a travel writer on the side.
