At least he's not going to linger. But still a bit of a blow to an area that doesn't need another one.

How well has New Orleans prepared for another tropical storm or hurricane since Katrina wreaked havoc? Have the cities pumps, levees, and storm aid personnel made ready for Nate’s battering? I hope so.

Take good care of yourself, Mike.

Cruisin the Coast schedule changes, announced this morning...awards and drawing prizes moved up from Sunday morning to Saturday morning. All venue stamping stations closed for the year this evening rather than tomorrow evening. Other procedure changes in place to make it easier for people to decide to leave a day or two early.

We closed this year's registration today at 11:00, so I was home by 1. Swung by the grocery store to stock up on canned goods (already had water) in case the power goes out. We have gas and charcoal grills ready to go if needed. Also our oven is gas so we can cook on the stove. Plenty of batteries and all outside hatches battened down. I am expecting to lose power for a few hours and will be fine if it is out for three days. Not that big a storm (fingers crossed) so I think that provides at least a 24 hour margin. We can always leave if recovery takes too long.

I MIGHT try to fire up the generator tomorrow but I may run out of time as I have to help a friend secure his sail boat at the harbor. He has plenty of new line but we may need to install two new cleats on the boat.

Thanks for the good wishes. Will let you know how it goes once power comes back on.

Stay safe Mike. What a horrible year this has been for storms.

The bad news...Nate looks like it may come ashore right here in Long Beach. The good news...It's only a category 1. Power is still on, although we did lose power for awhile this morning. Not from Nate. From a squirrel who's name I did not catch before he fried himself on a transformer down the street. Poor guy never knew what hit him.

Heart of the storm should roll in around 9 or 10. We are buttoned up and ready for whatever Nate wants to dish out, including an extended power outage. I will post an update tomorrow morning or whenever power comes back on.

Nate or one of his relatives is really screwing up our color tour. I planned out a tour that includes stops at two museums (Military and Elec. RR's) that are only open on W-Sat-Sun...... so what does Nate do... we have not had rain in weeks. The forecast is for rain all 6 days out of the next 14. Thanks Nate. Back to the drawing boards.
