Default New Tires

I might've been the last person to run SO-2s, but I've always liked them. My latest set had about 12,000 miles on them and have been on the car for about 3 or 4 years. The front tires still had probably about 10,000 miles left, but the rear tires were gone.

And after reading Legal Bill's thread I decided to try a set of RE-11As. A couple of mouse clicks on the Tire Rack webpage and the tires were on their way.

Being the neurotic S2000 owner that I am, I couldn't bring the car to a tire shop or my Honda dealer to let them take the wheels off of the car, I had to do it myself. There was rain predicted for today and my S2000 isn't allowed out in the rain. Unfortunately Adam is away on his co-op and Andrew was out late last night and wanted to sleep. Liz and I had something to do today so I had to get this done early. I was on my own.

So, I took Liz's car out of her bay in the garage and moved as much of the between car clutter to her side so that I could work in the garage. Still, with all of the stuff that we have there's barely enough room in my S2000's bay to park the car, but it had to be done.

I got out my ramps, jack stands, floor jack and tools and before long the car was up on the jack stands and the wheels off.

Next I marked each wheel with its position so that the tires would be mounted on the correct wheels and I could put the wheels back on where they came off.

Then I lined up the new tires and marked them so that the mechanic at Joyce Honda could mount them on the proper wheels. I don't like taking chances with my S2000.

Finally, I loaded the wheels and new tires in my BMW to take them to Joyce Honda to have them mounted and balanced. I wish I could do it myself, but without a tire machine it's too difficult.

I finally found the reason that 4 door sedans exist.

Now I'm waiting for a phonecall from Honda to let me know that they're finished. I'll go pick them up, put them back on the car and take a drive. I'm looking forward to trying them.

More later.

Same advice for Matt, who will be on new RE-11A,as well;Jim at Tirerack, told me,you need to drive them easy, for at least 500 miles,to get rid of the mold release lubricant.

Thanks Emil. That's very good advice.

I think it'll be ok. I'm driving about 187 miles to the meet and I'm tailgunning the moderate drive. I think it'll work out fine.

At about 4:00 pm I received a phone call from Joyce Honda. My tires were ready. I went to pick them up, and mounted them on my car.

Lowered the car off of the jack stands, checked the torque of the lug nuts, and checked the air pressure. They all needed a little air.

Now if it would only stop raining I'd try them out.

OMG Rob, you are a VERY particular person. I would like you to have Liz sit down at the keyboard and write a thread "what it's like to be married to Rob". I think it would be very entertaining. And you know I mean that in the nicest way.
This is what makes you a great accountant.

I appreciate the advice. However, my RE-11A's already have 7100 miles on them after my trip to S2K Days in Hood River, Oregon.

My only concern regarding the up coming Fall Harvest meet is having a few miles to put some "heat" in them if the morning temperature is below 50* F (10* C) as the Weather.com forecast was predicting for Saturday morning.

FWIIW. I can attest to how well they stick as the number two car in the spirited drive groups lead by "Guilty Fun" ambient temperatures of around 100* F (close to 40* C) at S2K Days. It is at low ambient temperatures that concerns me, until they warm up. When they are HOT, I LOVE these tires.

40F this morning on the North Coast. Buzzed the neighborhood cul-de-sacs and tried a couple of aggressive starts. The RE11A tires felt normal (maybe 1000 miles). Remembered to switch Stability Assist off. But my garage is attached to the house so was in the mid 50F range (as displayed on the dash) so the tires weren't really as cold as road conditions.
