We neighborhood kids were doing this regularly 50 plus years ago, and it was for free. We all knew who the a**hole neighbors were.

That's the perfect gift for my HVAC contractor! I hate the guy. I just sent him a letter today, trying to get him to reimburse me the $89 I paid to have some other HVAC guy come figure out why my brand new system made noise. I gave him 6 tries. He just kept pulling rabbits out of a hat. And saying he'd show up and then not show up or even call. Grrr. Oh, the problem was a piece of insulation in the blower assembly. Guy #2 pulled it out and vibration/noise stopped.

Kyras, Are you sure the first guy wasn' t a magician with all the rabbits and hats? Just kidding. I do HVAC as a part time job there are some real jerks out there. Glad you got it fixed.

I've turned into a part time HVAC guy working on my house over the last year.
I'm actually getting good at sheet metal and ducting.

It really annoys me that there are so many idiots out there doing it or should I say trying to do it but are just nincompoops.

Well, it may not be fixed after all. I heard it vibrating a little bit tonight, when I finally had the blower on again. It's definitely better but still not perfect.

Patty it may be that the ducting length/volume is tuned to the resonant driving function. This can cause a lot of noise.
Changing the plenum size to a larger volume can quiet it right down.
