Da Hapa,
Sorry if I was insensitive above. I just think humor makes us human. Without it we are way tooo tense and uptight. It only works if it surprises us, exaggerates, over/understates the case, focusses our taboos, takes things out of context, or is outrageous! It doesn't matter what side you are on, or what your political views are. We can all laugh together at it. Political or any other humor is not really supposed to state a truth -- it's supposed to be funny! So wantone was not introducting a political discussion. He was making us laugh! And wow, my sides hurt.

Humm... I'm confused (which isn't anything new ).
I read the entire thread on topics discussed in Vintage, and I read the S2Ki policies and regulations, and nowhere can I find a restriction on subjects discussed, let alone a ban on discussing politics and/or religion.
Did I miss something???
Regarding the above photo, I agree with the statement that being in that office carries more stress than most people can imagine, and that it seems like every president has aged tremendously while in office.
I took the photo as being in the vein of a Dennis Miller parody; a humorous caption applied to a news photo. Not tasteless, not disrespectful, just humorous. Everyone has different definitions of humor, what makes one person laugh can make another person cringe, or be offended.
Jest mah 'pinion, yuh unnerstan'...

Since the founding of the Vintage Forum it has been our policy to allow the discussion of any and all topics so long as the discussion remains civil. This forum (Vintage) is and has always been aimed at adults, and the assumption has been that all who participate will approach the issue (any issue) in a mature way. Disagreement is allowed. Flames, slurs, name calling, insults, offensive language and the use of offensive language is not allowed.
So far this policy has led to a forum that had welcomed all ideas and all discussion. In the relatively short life of Vintage many controversial issues have been discussed and in general the discussions have remained civil and have allowed all participants to learn and grow. There is no reason to change this approach.
I think this thread proves the point. One person posted a photo he thought comical, another was offended by it and said so. A discussion followed and remained civil. It is possible that no one has changed anyone elses mind, but we've gotten to see many points of view. And, nobody has felt the need to "step on anyone's toes". This I think is excellent. This is exactly what we had hoped for when Vintage began.
There is a thread titled "Subjects discussed in Vintage" that might give you some more insight to how the members of Vintage perceive this forum. This post really should have been put there, but I wanted to clear the air.
This is an excellent discussion, please continue.
