If I'm not mistaken, triglycerides only account for 25% of total cholesterol number.

Not sure what the fish oil did for the good/bad cholesterol balance. He usually had a high percentage of "good" cholesterol even without meds, however his total number was still high enough that they tried another med. Some of the first meds gave him side affects.
According to my doctor and nurse practitioner fish oil will help lower triglycerides. Which is why they recommended fish oil for me.

As far as a nutritious lunch is concern there is always the classic sandwich:

Peanut butter
Sardines
Pumpernickle bread
Lettuce
Tomato

If you use fat free Mayo it helps it slide down easier.

Sue,

There was an article in Prevention Magazine about "Not all fish oils being equal". I know that it can get confusing with so many choices but you did not make a bad one.

The key to fish oil according to Prevention is making certain that it contains EPA & DHA. The Kirkland brand at Costco not only contains 300 MG in each capsule but it is price attractive considering the 400 softgel bottle.

Not all of the fish oil on the market contains EPA & DHA according to the article.
Thank you very much, Matt.

Yes, mine is the Kirkland Brand, and it does say that it contains Total Omega 3 (with EPA + DHA) 300 mg.

I'm hoping that it was a good choice, because I bought 2 bottles of 400 softgels each.

They were $9.65, and then there was a $2.50 coupon on each, bringing it down to $7.15 each (plus tax, of course. )

Just tell me something is "on sale," or give me a coupon, and I'll probably buy it. That was one factor in how I made my decision after checking out Sam's Club, CostCo, reading lots of different labels, etc.

I'll have to see if I can find the Prevention Magazine on-line.

Thanks for the info.

(Just wondering, Matt, do you take Fish Oil?)

Sorry that I got off-topic.

I think that I'll skip your healthy sandwich, Matt, and just stick to my usual lunch, plus a fish oil capsule.

My mother brought the article to my attention as I do not subscribe to Prevention Magazine. I am not sure if you can access it on line without subscribing.

The answer to your question is: Yes. I do.

HINT: As the softgel caps are fairly large I suggest popping one in your mouth, then taking a swig of water and holding both in your mouth until you can feel the capsule getting a bit slippery with your tongue. Then swallow it. They go down a LOT easier that way in my opinion.

Ate fresh cantaloup, watermelon and honeydew with mexican fruit seasoning. A mixture of ground chili peppers, lime juice and salt. Very popular in these parts and also good on cooked or raw vegetables.

Sue,

I was just being a geek. Your questions about fish oil fell right in line with the topic of a "nutritious lunch".

I just wanted to go back to what to have for lunch in the way of a sandwich that I would NEVER eat.

Years ago my brother was going next door to a deli to grab a sandwich and asked his coworkers if he could get them anything? One requested to get him what ever my brother was having. So in his devious mind he came up with that combination for his coworker. Just to see his reaction when he opened the wrapper. He then handed him a normal sandwich like a a ham & cheese or whatever he picked up for him.

That is one of the things that I really miss about a true New York City deli. They will make what ever you ask them to and figure out a way to charge you for it. My brother said that the person that made the sandwich almost gagged while making it.

I use to like to order rare roast beef on wheat bread with lettuce, tomato and either shrimp or lobster salad (depending on what they had that day). YUM.
