Is that frugal enough?

The only thing to be careful of, and this is with any GPS, is the street names. For instance I have a client on US-46 in Fairfield, NJ. Depending on the GPS unit I have to put in US, Hwy, or RT to find the correct address.

None of the links, including the one on the Garmin site, work. I have to say the battery on mine has never worked good. I am lucky if I get 20 minutes of battery power out of it.

Patty, do you use the traffic report feature on the 1490T, and if so how useful is it? Costco is now selling the 1490T here for $199.95 with the "instant rebate", and I was thinking of getting one.
Most of the time I just keep plodding along rather than trying to avoid the traffic but it is nice to have a ballpark figure for where and why there is traffic.

Thanks for starting this thread, Lainey. It reminded me that I needed to update my Garmin. When I started downloading the update, I suddenly remembered that I had bought the "lifetime" subscription last year.
If I hadn't seen your post, I would be driving around with an obsolete database. BTW, when I was returning from S2K Days in Asheville, NC, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take a couple of neat looking twisty roads that the Garmin said connected to the Blue Ridge Parkway, only to find they dead-ended on a private road with a gate across it. This proves that you sure can't trust the little bugger all the time!

Glad to help.We always (or I should say Rick) found our way with maps and AAA guides when traveling. We still get the map and AAA guides, but the Nuvi rocks! I would not hit the road without one.
Well I can't anyway, as I'd likely not reach my destination. Which way is north?
A little off-topic but last month, I was in a Ritz or Dodd or Wolf Camera (one of those nat'l chains that are in malls) to pick up a filter. I noticed that they had a very large verizon cell phone display and asked when they started carrying cell phones. He said its been a couple months and that they decided that it was a business they had to be in, as the point & click camera market would be all but extinct in just a few years. I think that pocket GPSs are on the same track.
