Question Obituary

Obituary for Mr. Sense:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense. Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn)
and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate;
teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still remember him pass this on; if not, join the majority and do nothing.

He may have moved North of the border as he has been known to show up time to time in the great white north.

Is he related to Common Cause? He's still around and trying to push back against the Beltway Bandits. It's a hard job with little appreciation returned by the public. He relies on contributions to survive at his little apartment....it's at 503-C Nonprof Lane.

Btw, Kathy and I are 'speaking' 7-8 am tomorrow morning on the 24 hour pro-filibuster fiibuster here in Philly. Is anyone else participating in this attempt to raise people's awareness.... that some would do away with the multi-party system in the US?

Whether or not you support a fillabuster on judicial nominees, whether or not you support using the constitutional option. Are you going to support democrats actively working to shut down work in the senate because they don't like the way the rules are being FOLLOWED.

My point is simple. Even if the republicans use the constitutional option, they are acting within the rules set out by the constitution. I don't think democrats would be anywhere close to right to bring all buisiness in the senate to a halt because someone is forcing them to play by the rules.

Furthermore, if they fulfill their threat to do so, I think that they will seal the fate of many democrats in next years elections. Most Americans aren't going to support shutting down the business of the senate because democrats lost a battle over judical nominees.

Go ahead dems, play out your hand and see if I am right.

The majority party sets the procedural rules in both houses of congress. That is one reason that the Democrats held onto the majority for so many years. It is a definite advantage.

I would think that the threat to shut down the Senate would remind them of the budget argument between Newt Gingrich and President Clinton. The Republicans lost a lot of momentum and support on that one.
