The obituary
So yesterday I was reading the local obituaries. I noticed too many of them were young, under 60, and one was just a few years older than I and went to the same elementary school. Her sister was in my class.
Then one obit caught my eye. It was an elderly person and the obit read like a resume. Her various places and dates of employment were all detailed. It left me
a bit.
Family members provide the local paper with info for the obituaries. Perhaps families get comfort in having all the accomplishments listed? Really lengthy obituaries often leave me wondering, why some need/want such detail. My preference would be a summary, but then again, I've yet to win the Nobel Prize.

Yet another thing that I don't worry about, because I won't be around to read it.
It's interesting that this seems to be a one-choice poll!

Of course you won't be here to read your obit, none of us will be here for our obits.
My Dad wrote his own. It listed his accomplishments, including his WWII service, but it was not a resume.
Several months ago I did one for my best friend for 52 years. It seemed so inadequate for someone with such an not-so-ordinary and meritorious life. There is no good way to say that someone was a really, really, really good human being.

Many news orgs have pre-written obits for famous people, just in case.
I do care what people I know think about me. I hope that when I'm gone people won't think I was a total waste of oxygen. But I don't care what people I don't know think about me.

and no it was not Michael Jackson's
