Having deep roots in an area makes a difference. I would probably be reading them, along with the arrest reports, now if I was still living in ME.

Writing your own obit is one of the exercises often done in a writing class. I had to do one years ago and it was truly very difficult. I think I'd like to be remembered for whatever relationships I've had rather than what my occupation was. Linkin Park sums it up for me:

It is ironic in view of my mother's death the other day that I'm bumping this. But I saw a funny obit and had to share. A man in South Dakota had one that was very short - "Doug died."
