Default Old age

I came back from the Bay Area to Sacramento a few weeks ago. I did not bother to turn the radio on at all. No music, no traffic reports, no nothing. I just had the top down, and listened to the engine, the wind and enjoyed the scenery. This is the first time that has ever ocurred. Normally I like to at least know about the traffic ahead. In my old age, I guess that I'm learning to appreciate the car and the driving experience along with the landscape. Good-bye youth hello___ ?

Do a search for ralper's thread on 'Motoring'. It is a classic and you'll like it

Is that because no one can hear the radio with the top down in an S --- even an '06 with its pathetic little headrest speakers?

As for being quite old, Emil, I can only go by your profile data which tells me that "old" is a relative thing.

Humor aside, our 24 year old daughter decries the incessant need to have the stereo blasting or cell phone in the ear by saying, " are people afraid to be alone with their thoughts?"

She's not old, you are not old.

Back in the 80's when the employer that I worked for had six motorcycle stores the owner had one of the early mobile phones which were quite rare back then. His secretary, wife and other managers found it a bit annoying that he never seemed to have it powered up as he drove between locations. He finally, explained that while in the car it was the only quiet time that he had to think about stuff, or relax and enjoy the drive. He had a series of very collectable cars through the years until getting very serious about collecting 30's classics like a V-12 Packard and other true classics. Early on, he had a 65 Corvette coupe followed by a DeTomaso Pantera, an AC Shelby Cobra, etc.
