Ah they would have figured out a way to ticket me somehow for something.

I ended up hitting a vehicle in the other lane, broke my femur as I impacted their front wheel. It was an old guy driving a big ass Lincoln Town car, he slammed on the brakes as he saw me enter his lane, he saved my life by reacting so quickly, another inch of movement and I would have been dead. I still get shivers down my spine thinking of it, they call it PTSD these days.

I used to love riding but like you said after a big accident it is just not the same. Lot of people don't get it if they haven't been through it.

That's more than the $1,100 that the ambulance company back in Massachusetts charged my mother when she was 101. She had a bad bladder infection and went into sepsis. I called them, told them that she was uninsured and they were quick to settle up for $400. Go figure!

BTW: It was 1.5 miles.

I have to schedule a routine physical months out in advance. When I have switched jobs it takes month to get any kind of insurance without which I do not know where I can make an appointment. I promise you, ours is a worse system for all but the wealthiest americans.

The best way for me to explain it to people not living here, is that we have a system of compromises. Equitable care provided for the country as a whole, while sometimes individuals may need to make some sacrifices.

When my father died of ALS he got the best care possible, every need, homecare, and equipment provided to him during his illness. If he lived elsewhere under a different system the family would have been bankrupted. When I broke my leg in a motorcycle accident I had to sit in a hospital for quite a few days before I was operated upon. I knew my father got the best care possible so I couldn't complain about my situation, resources were being allocated based on need as I awaited for my treatment. Not perfect but not terribly bad, and somewhat equitable.

Health care for profit will always fail to achieve equity.

There are a number of articles of late where VC are acquiring hospitals, sucking the equity out of through mortgages and bonds, ( which then pay bonuses to the VC team,) and then slowly close the hospital functions.
In the end there is a bag of debt and an empty building,.

So sorry to hear about this. I hope you have a full recovery. I had 2 crashes on my bicycle. On the first one I broke my pelvis, right hand and suffered some bruised ribs. On the second I suffered a concussion and ended up lying in the middle of a busy road. My riding buddies stopped traffic until the ambulance arrived. I was out until I got to the ER. My helmet saved my life twice. I do not ride my bike on public roads anymore. I only ride on trails where there are no vehicles. Soon after my second accident a very good friend was hit and killed by a distracted driver.
