An aquantance of mine played La Crosse in college. His arms and legs where always bruised. From what I have seen when you have the ball, you don't really have to give it up, but the opposing players smack you with sticks continually until you pass it.

Remember, Jim Brown was an all american La Crosse player at the same time he played college football (first, last famous player).
