Default "Openometer"

I just read a review of the 2009 Mini Cooper convertible. Among other items, it now features an "openometer", which measures the elapsed amount of time spent driving with the top down.

Is this just a gimmick or can anyone think of a useful purpose for this instrument?

I am also reminded of my old 4-wheel drive Toyota Tercel wagon which had an inclinometer (measures the degree of incline of the vehicle). I am not sure what use this was, other than to tell other people about the steepness of a hill you were able to drive up or down.

We don't need a gauge/indicator of any kind for that. The top is down 99.9% of the time if the weather cooperates. That's why we bought a convertible.

I'd be more interested in a "openoutsideovernightintherainometer" in case I ever look at another used convertible.

Sounds to me like they had some extra
money laying around and came up with that.
