No kidding Gene, I had no idea. That is one of my favorite closing arguments. Short, effective and moving. Legend has it, he pretty much made it up on the spot. Who knows.
Bill,
Not meaning to hi-jack this thread, but I did a little research on-line, and found that Sen. George Vest was, in fact, my Great-Great-Great Uncle.
Mike, you have my deepest sympathies. Our Jessie was like that...I hadn't really wanted a dog but Judy was determined. We got her at a local shelter. She'd somehow survived on the street, this dog who wanted to chase Harleys and trailer trucks! She was with us 13 years. We lost her pretty suddenly three years this week. It was the worst thing I've ever experienced and I still miss her.
For you dog lovers, there is a new book out that you must get. It's by my fave humor writer (after Dave Barry), named Gene Weingarten. He won a Pulitzer this year. It's called Old Dogs: Are the Best Dogs, written with Michael S. Williamson.

^^ I'll try to look for that in SC. I always visit Books a Million down there and load up on goodies.
tof, I somehow missed this thread. I'm very sorry for your loss.
My sympathy to you, Mike, for your heartache after losing Ginger.
I go by Kyras, the name of my first German Shepherd. His death was harder on my than my mom's or dad's. I still miss him and remember how he would play with me, tearing up and down the hall, jumping onto my bed and barking his head off, while I yelled, "Don't eat me!" He's been gone almost 9 years.
