Default IS IT OVER?

Has the interest waned to the point that meets are becoming obsolete? I realize we've all grown older and that health and family issues are arising more and more often. Life, as they say gets in the way. Last Fall the turnout for Fall Harvest dropped considerably - to the point that I'm wondering if I should put it on again this year. It requires a great deal of time and work -as anyone who has ever organized a meet will tell you. I absolutely love doing it, however I fear that if participation drops off any more it won't be worth the effort. Negotiating hotel rates and dining facilities requires a commitment to those people in the form of head counts based on my word. We have to reach certain levels for the rates we receive. I noticed that Spring Fling interest seems to be less than previous years as well. So please give me input on your interest. I normally would have started planning a few months ago for this years meet but have been a bit gun-shy after last year.

Your obedient servant,

David aka Headchef

Interest does seem to be waning. Many S2000 owners have moved on in one way or another. Spring Fling didn't work for our schedule this year. We have a road trip planned mid to late September. IF you plan a meet we will try to make it but most of our vaca time and budget is allocated already. I think attendance may have been a bit off for Fall Harvest due to the fact that folks had been in the same area for Spring Fling

Look how quiet the forums are. That says a lot

Dave, Lainey hit the nail on the head.
Also with all the work you did for both the spring and fall events they had to have burnt you out. We all do appreciate it. Maybe a year break from the big meets is called for. This would also allow you to attend another event someplace if you'd like. .. However if you decide on doing an event this year I'm interested, but I can wait till '17.

From a distance it looks like the Vintage members in the North East attend more frequent meets than do members from outside that part of the country.. So if there is a burn out it probably doesn't affect the longer distance members as much. Some of us focus primarily on SF as the favorite. We don't feel any of the burnout - with just one or sometimes two meets a year. It's from the need to see a our Vintage friends at least once a year. (If there were interest I would try to have a meet frequently here in Colorado; but that's a pretty long drive for most people.)

I'm pretty sure most of you don't frequent the Dragon Forum, but the meets there are very well attended. No lack of interest there!
For instance, the upcoming Spring Meet in April has 65 cars and 89 folks attending. There is also a June meet there that our Ken is hosting, and we expect over 20 cars to attend that. Plus, S2KDays in Durango is now expecting 45 or so cars in July, and the Gettysburg meet in September is also expected to have well over 20 cars attending. Don't forget Jonas' Tomcatt meet. Always a bunch of cars there. Doesn't sound dead to me!

I don't mind driving 400 or more miles to attend a meet, as I have done many times. (Fall Crawl, the Northeaster, the Tomcatt, and the Dragon, for instance) Sorry I couldn't make the last 2 Fall meets that Dave put on, but there is a limit to my meets funding!

Oh, Roseanne seems to have good attendance at her EOQ meets in Cali as well.

Time and money is a factor...........There is only so much vacation time for those of us still working and, there is a vacation budget. Since 2004 we have spent a fair amount of vacation time and money on S2000 events, though not so much in recent years. There are other areas of the US within driving distance we'd like to check out on vacation. If we were on a road trip, we'd check out the dragon, but for a meet it's just too far, and there are other places we'd rather go if we are making that long of a drive. We'd love to participate in the TomCatt, but again, it's just too far. It's over 11 hours of driving each way to spend yet another day driving. We enjoy our S2000, and the company of the attendees, but that's just too much time sitting. It's not fun, for us. YMMV We've done PA and Gettysburg and don't care to return to the same area over and over. Delaware sounded good but the timing was off. We will see what next spring brings.

We do appreciate all the efforts of those who are planning meets, keeping the dream alive!

It is ironic that I moved to Delaware and can't attend Sprig Fling. But I would drive up north for the fall crawl if you decide to do it again. We will be if myrtle beach in August but Sept is open. The only thing that could stop us is if our house is ready.

David,
A 12 hour drive,is my personnal limit, and going to Delaware is very close to my limit,at 11.something hours.

But,if you decide to do it again,in Clifton Park,I'll be there;short drive,5hours,piece of cake.

Like they say,in the movie,:"Build it,and they will come."

Hey, I will be putting in a rare appearance at Spring Fling this year so the event must be getting better, right?

Seriously, I wish we had more Vintage gatherings within a day or two driving distance from us down here on the Gulf. I really admire Jim and all the others who make the long multi-day drives to the events in the Northeast.

Glad to read that Dragon events are still happening after Raul and Company decided to step down from their leadership rolls in those get-togethers. I have many fond memories of Dragonball and Wake the Dragon, as well as some nice T-shirts. Wish I still had the car.
