Default Panasonic Lumix ZS40 compact camera on sale!

Anyone in the market for a good point and shoot camera at a great price? I just ordered one on Costco.com. It's normally $350 but it's $90 off right now. I have an older version of the same camera but this one has a 30x zoom compared to my 20X, and can share images with a smartphone via WiFi/NFC, what ever that means. Since I've been very happy with my Lumix DMC ZS25 I'm going for this one.

$259.99 After $90 OFF & Free Shipping

Features: 3.0" TFT LCD, 60 FPS, ISO Range up to 6400, 24-720mm Ultra Wide Angle Lens. Includes 16GB Card and Case

That sounds like a great camera. I'm temped as my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 is 8 years old. I paid $370 for 18x. With 30x I could be shooting the bugs on the feathers on the birds in the backyard. That really is the only time I seem to use it these days. Otherwise, its just too easy to ask +1 for her iPhone.

^Hmmm. I'll have to try the feathers on my hummers when it comes. I use the setting "through glass" for the birds outside my kitchen window.

From my spartan camera knowledge...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS25, like the one you currently own, is an excellent point-and-shoot camera. My wife has one and has been very satisfied with its image quality and wide angle/zoom capabilities. I imagine she would like the newer Panasonic Lumix ZS40 even better. She doesn’t need a newer camera though, she now has an iPhone 6S Plus that takes awesome photos and uses it exclusively.

FWIW - (and I’m certain that you know) If a long focal length used it accentuates camera shake and heat waves. To avoid this, go to manual mode, bump the ISO, select a high shutter speed, and use a tripod or monopod (the heat waves will still exist)…if image quality is a concern, then the requirements takes the fun and spontaneity out of a point-and-shoot. And (sigh), if only the Panasonic Lumix ZS40 had an optical viewfinder.

It has something new but it's not through the lens.

Built-In Live View Finder
The ZS40 comes equipped with a 0.2-inch LVF (Live View Finder) with 200K-dot equivalent resolution, and 100% field of view. This adds stability when framing your subjects and high visibility of live view images even at high magnification under strong sunlight. You can even set the camera to 60 fps to smoothly display fast-moving subjects.

I think a pocket size Canon I have has the same view finder. It is so small it's not very helpful.....I'd be interested in your review after you buy this camera, Patricia.

I've barely used the camera yet but here are two photos through the kitchen window. I think it'll be nice to have the extra zoom. I need to follow the procedure, still, to hook it up to my smartphone for instant uploads. I also used the camera to take photos of my Crosstour and a lady's beater Toyota after she backed into me in a parking lot.

Those are very cool pictures, Patty!

Thanks for sharing them.

Sorry about the mishap with your Crosstour.

Pics look good. What are your comments on the view finder?
