I guess it just depends on how much you want to keep the hostage alive.

The way this is being handled is absurd, ridiculously expensive and in my opinion. STUPID.

Apparently, the Navy, not really being in the hostage rescue business, called in the FBI hostage experts, and their usual approach is to be extremely patient. Hence the delays. They're likely to try to wait the pirates out.

And if you've seen these sealed boats, you know that they're ruggedized and fully self-contained. A successful attack would not be trivial to mount. HPH

I saw that the pirates are bringing in two mother ships, both previously captured vessels. One has hostages on it. They are in for the long haul. One ship (not sure it's one of these two) has been held since last Nov.

Keep everything away from the lifeboat. Everything. Advise the pirates they need to release the captain unharmed, surrender and face justice. If not, they die of thirst very shortly or starvation a few days later. If they are known to have killed the captain, a 5 inch shell from the destroyer evaporates them. Any ships/boats attempt to resupply them are to be assumed hostile and fired upon.

Everyone's watching. If we deal the captain away for cash, it's like a free advertisement for this to happen again. And again. I wonder if the captain wishes he was Russian or Israeli right now.

Sounds like you're writing off the hostage. I'm sure his family will be pleased. HPH

I hope the captain is saved. I would promise the pirates anything and deliver death!

^^Yeah. And I liked Flats' idea in the other thread about finding out where they hide out and doing some significant landscape alterations, using airborne assets, there. These guys are terrorists just as much as the al Qaeda gangs that we send cruise missiles after. HPH

ya know a radio homing beacon could easily be embedded into the ransom payment.
you could even make it smart so it only chirps when called.
a little direction finding algorithm in the navigation electronics and bingo,
quicker than Bob's your uncle, you've solved some of your hijacker problem.

and I'm not sure they are not part of Al Qaeda.
