Lucky,I was not anywhere near that,as I now live in Quebec city, wich is about 150 miles away, from where it happened; But when I lived in Terrebonne,I used to commute there, twice a day.!!!
As far as the popcorn,it's very good, and very easy to make;I'll try to translate it.
It goes like this:

-Clarified butted,perfumed(???)with garlic,or olive oil.
-Popcorn.
-Herbs(de Provence)
-Salt flower.

-In a thick pan, heat the butter,or olive oil.
add the popcorn, cover, and, let it pop, shaking the pan from time to time.
When the popping is finished, add to taste, the herbs, clarified butter, and salt flower. You can also do this operation,in a large brown paper bag.
note, you can also perfume??? the popcorn with smoked paprika, curry powder, chili powder,or other spices.

Well, thank you very much for the translation. Glad you weren't anywhere near that mess.

I visited your fair city as a side trip during one of my jazz festivals and fell in love with it (and the shopping there). I was so struck by how clean everything was. Is there a trolly-like device that goes up (steep) to an old castle that's now a hotel or am I confusing cities? I've got to get back up that way again now.

When I was growing up, on Sundays we'd go to church, come home and have a traditional (big) Sunday dinner, while away the afternoon, and then, for supper gather around the TV to watch Walt Disney and then Ed Sullivan, with popcorn as the main course.

Dad made the popcorn in one of those screen-topped shakers with a handle, held and shaken over a fire in the fireplace (I'm not making this up, honest). I suppose this is why a little smoke flavor is OK with me.

There was oil in the shaker, so this is probably similar to that Whirly-Pop method.

To this day, I'm a huge popcorn fan and can put away a gallon or so (it's popcorn, after all) in about 15 minutes. Yum. HPH

Much the same at our house, though Friday night was usually popcorn night. Cooked in an old popper, or even a pan.....with LARD as the oil. , then loaded with butter.

A cholesterol feast like no other.

We used to have big Sunday dinners too. As I grew up, I was not happy about those as all activities were planned AFTER Sunday dinner. No fun heading to the beach at 2:00 PM when you are a teen.

I don't think any of my siblings bother preparing Sunday dinners. Times have changed a LOT when both Mom and Dad are working outside the home and the kids are involved in all kind of activities. I sometimes make a nice meal on Sunday evening, especially in the colder months.
