The power of positive thinking.

 

I read the book "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale. My father gave that to me when I was in college and I have to admit it made a real difference in my life. Still does.

Of course the meaning of life can be distilled into this:

To know God and to love Him in this life and the next.

 

Absolutely. We have a strong faith and God has blessed our family with good health and happiness. We have had challenges but I believe our strong faith has gotten us and our family through them.

 

That was a good book and my father bought it as well. I don't recall it justifying greed and riches.

 

I am rich but not with money. A loving family, good friends and good health makes me feel that I am rich and blessed.

 

My occupation(s) as a Naval Officer/Aviator (over a year and a half of pure sea time) and then 34 years of flying literally around the world, have given me a perspective of how profoundly blessed I personally am and especially as a citizen of the best country and government to exist on the planet in the history of mankind. I thought I had an understanding of poverty as a kid growing up in Coronado next to Tijuana Mexico (we had friends who lived there). Some of the kids I would play pick up baseball with lived in a kind of shanty town in that their homes had dirt floors that to my amazement, were super clean being swept every day. That concept changed as an adult and I visited certain Asian countries and then spent long airline layovers (5-10 days) in Bombay (Mumbai) and New Delhi India. I gained an entirely new perspective on what a little nun called Mother Theresa was dealing with in Calcutta. She served the lowest of the low in the human condition on the planet. You have not seen abject poverty until you have seen the lowest caste living in India.

I would come back from one of those trips, step into my house built in 1997 and feel like King Solomon and all his riches.

I review my life and see how much God intervened and in grace granted me the occupation I went to. As it turned out, in my opinion, it was perfectly suited to me, my personality, my passion, my abilities. I feel like I won the occupation lottery. Thank you God for everything!

 

And as a fellow Navy vet thank you for your service and pointing out what is most important in life and it is not being rich.

 

I believe positivity and thankfulness are of utmost importance in our lives.

 

As someone who has done everything, except put the uniform on (I've taken the same oath, as a Military Civilian employee - Military spouse, VFW member, VA Honor Guard), allow me to salute you... for your years of dedicated service to this country we love.

 

Thank you for the salute. Thank you all for allowing me to serve our country (It took 3 attempts to be admitted to Aviation Candidate School) and thank you for the tax payer dollars to train me for my love of aviation!
