Default Re-designed web sites

Like most people on the internet, I have a few favorites web sites. I often go to CNN.com for news, or a local TV news (Boston) web site, among others. I use Yahoo as a home page, and have things set up the way I like them.

Every time I turn around, someone is re-designing their web page. CNN not that long ago, today it was the Boston news web site.

When they change the design of the web site it feels like going to the grocery store after they move all the stuff around. Sometimes I wish they would leave the web sites alone.

I don't care for the CNN new design, but maybe I'm just and don't like change?

What's your .02 on this?

Yahoo re-did theirs some time back and I hate it. And if it is the thing, well tough. I'm smarter than those snot-nosed programmers they have and I know what I like!

But I retained their old format and never changed. I guess that makes me vintage.

I changed it by mistake and now can't find a button to let me go back.

I also use cnn.com for news, but I haven't seen their main page in ages. I set up an RSS feed from them so the headlines in my favorite categories show up in my browser's bookmarks. I go straight to any stories I'm interested in, and don't care what they do to the rest of their website.

I can think of only one website that did a redesign so awful that I went from being a regular reader to removing it from my bookmarks. In every other case I eventually got used to it.

In business there is a magic formula to success. Its called change.

Resistance to change = Failure.

Those web sites you mentioned are commercial ventures.

Enough said
