I had the same experience years ago. I accompanied a friend to visit his parents in Westchester County, NY (phone and mailing address were South Salem and Pound Ridge, but I don't remember which was which). I knew that his father had retired from the Daily News, commutting to the city every day. I was expecting an asphalt covered, skyscraper dominated shithole. I have never been more wrong about anything in my life. That area was gorgeous 35 years ago. I hope that it hasn't gone down the toilet since...
