Just some of the spares or out-of-date remotes in my collection. These do not include the 6 or so that I have in actual use. Now you know why Comcast bills are so high. They continue to give them out anytime a device is replaced. I just tossed them all out but one but I did keep many of the still good batteries.

And then there is the cable - coax, HDMI, etc. that I continue to save but don't ask me why? The rainy day never seems to come where I need them.

And then there is the drawer full of out-of-date speaker wire. On and on it goes - I have the never used Apple keyboard and Apple mouse, and the old hardwire keyboard and mouse, and . . .

How did we ever survive before all this never ending electronic world took over our lives? Are you like me? Hanging on to out dated electronics?

HDMI cables are pretty expensive and worth holding on to.

Those remotes probably cost Comcast about a buck a piece. Next time you check out at WalMart or Target look at how inexpensive calculators in the check out impulse buy displays are. And that's retail. Some cheap plastic, a chip with a unit cost measured in pennies, and an infra-red diode and bingo, you have an IR remote.

What got me started was I was looking for a data cable for a generation "one" iPad. It still works for some things and not others. I wanted to see if I could load a photo to it to use as a reference for a painting I want to do. (remember that old method using iTunes and a cable) Oh my goodness . . . I got messaging to work and was able to send and receive them! I sent the photo from my wife's phone and now have it on the old iPad. Life is good. Really good.

It just dawned on me that I have the cable I was looking for - its the same one I use for keeping it charged. That's why they never let me work in the IT department.

We have a few cables and computer related things hanging about. Your collection is way better than ours.

I was pleased that we had the extra HDMI cable as that allows the lap top to be hooked up to the TV and voila, my FB virtual YMCA class is on the big screen.

We may have an extra remote or two for the TV's since a couple of them have the ROKU remote, but I think we generally toss out the old ComCast/Xfinity ones.

Thanks to your post, Lainey, I just realized I could do the same thing for Bea's thrice weekly yoga group Zoom sessions. I just tried it and showed it to her, and she was pleased! Glad I kept one of the seemingly hundreds of cables that, like Dave said, Comcast insisted on giving me, even though I had perfectly good ones already.

I have a bag in my back closet full of coax, speaker wire and a few universal remotes along with the codebooks for the universal remotes. I still have a vcr in my t.v. stand in my bedroom, but hey I'm 80's guy that is my excuse!

Hey Dave, Sandy saw me viewing this thread and now she wants you to come over and help with our "spring cleaning", aka throwing out stuff.

I only have one thing to say Dave, " hah rookie"

I am somewhat amused to look at the evolution of cables over the last 40 years.
RF- > RCA-> S-video-> composite -> HDMI
Printers from 50 plantronics -> 25 parallel -> USB -> ethernet -> WiFi

and so forth.
