Sorry to hear it, but look upon it as a new opportunity to excel.

I am also sorry to learn this.

As one of my older co-workers found when looking for employment as potential employers can not come out and ask your age, you may want to consider "Just for Men" or Greacian Formula" to hide the gray or white hair if you have it.

With my situation I am hoping that I can make it to the end of "product life cycle" with the product that I support so that I can (hopefully) retire.

Brings back memories....a bit over 3 years since my 'downsizing'. I have beat the odds both times I was RIF'd while >50. Got a new gig in a couple weeks both times: once as an employee and once as a consultant.

Yes, you have a good attitude (and 'package')....both helped me also look at the change as a positive challenge. Good luck

If my current position comes to an end (whether my choice or theirs), I think I'll go the consultant route....and work 3-4 days/ week

What a drag...I wish you the best with a new position. The key is to have up-to-date skills, and ideally skills that are in demand. So if you are rusty, I'd suggest upgrading them asap. Good luck!!

Sorry to hear that.
How old are you???
In my neck of the woods,it's very hard to get a permanent job,if you're over 50...
60 but we all know that age discrimination is not allowed Have given my resume a "face lift" by showing only last 20 yrs. and compressing the rest as prior experience. All graduation dates and military dates are now removed.

Thanks for the good wishes. It should be interesting. Have been doing some networking and have some "nibbles". Will see if they turn into bites in the following weeks.

Try to keep your resume to the last 10 years. I find that is much more revelant anyways. Anything before that shows your age. It should also be only one page long.
Sorry this has happened to you. Here is hoping you find something even better! Good luck.

Well it' been awhile but have found fulltime employment. I have doing some consulting and the last company I had been working for decided to hired me

The company that let me go will be closing its doors in June. Up side to be one of the first let go is that we received a decent severance. The latest group to go received zero. Gotta love when you are bought by a venture capital firm.

To anyone else still looking.......keep the faith.

Glad to hear you've found a job. The economy is tough right now.

My +1 just changed jobs as he saw "handwriting on the wall" where he was. If his previous place of employment closes, I'm SURE there would have been no severance package. He didn't want to hang around to find out.

It's been a long week at the new job, and when the granddaughter asked how he like it, he told her he had a lot to learn. She assured him she felt the same way when she went to first grade after kindergarten!

Good luck with the new job, though if you've been working as a consultant for them, maybe it's not "too new"?
