The Road Trip
Road trips were an important part of my teen years. I never went coast to coast like some of my firends did, but I wen to the mid west and the south on a regular basis. I used to drive 5 or 600 miles in a day. Now I find long trips can be difficult. How far are you comfortable driving in a day? How far in the S2000 as compared to other cars you own?
We used to max out at 6-8 hours in a car. Any car. Any more than that and we'd fly. We just didn't enjoy time on the road.
Our recent road trip to VA in the S surprised us. We made the trip home in one day. Took back roads for part of the day. Rolled out of VA around 8:30 AM, arrived home 11:30 P.M. We had a reservation in NY for the evening, and canceled it before we got there as we were both comfortable with continuing the trip.

Well, my personal best was Alexandria, VA to to Saint Petersburg, FL (1014 miles) in fourteen hours and fifteen minutes "back in the day" (Feb of 1972). 1969 Firebird at an overall average speed of of 71.16 MPH.
Today I drove the from my Mother's house home with an average speed of 64.5 MPH. in 5 hours and 10 minutes. I was on a mission to get home and watch the F1 Race. I missed the first eight laps (Damn). Traffic on the NJTP and I-95 at times was moving below the speed limit. :-( This time included the 9 minute and 52 second pit stop in NJ.
The answer to your question is about eight to ten hours depending on traffic conditions. When I arrived home today, I was a bit disappointed that the drive was over. Even though I wanted to get home to watch the British GP from Silverstone.

We are getting ready to embark on a marathon road-trip in the S2K, with the final destination being PEI, Canada. There are a couple of regional delicacies I want to try on the way, so I am asking for you New-Englander's advice. Where can I get the best fried clams, the best lobstah roll, and the best fresh lobster on the coast of New Hampshire, Maine, or any of the Canadian Maritimes? I have heard rave reviews about Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery, ME, which is one place I plan to stop. Any others?
I was thinking about this today. I no longer enjoy the long trips like I use to for a variety of reasons. First off, it seems I have driven so many of the roads under 1000 miles - north, east, south, and west - so many times they are all boring; even the backroads. Many of roads have a really crappy surface here in the rust belt or just enough traffic to keep me on edge. I never found the S2000 enjoyable as a long trip car (age catching up with the taunt suspension and tight space). Our limit any more seems to be about six hours per day.

I prefer doing about 400 miles a day, if it's just traveling and not including much sight seeing stops.
I definitely don't enjoy road trips, unless I can go the back way wherever I'm going. I've done that for the most part when I go to meets. Interstate driving is very stressful for me. I really enjoyed the drive down to Wintergreen, because I avoided the interstates altogether and drove beautiful back roads almost the whole way. If you are pressed for time, unfortunately, that won't work. So I generally prefer to fly if I'm going long distances.

LB - I drive 800 miles/14 hrs, whichever comes first and depending upon who's with me. The vehicle I'm driving makes no difference.
