Rotor Rust

If you are not tracking your car you can replace rotors with aftermarket versions that have a coating on them. The surface will still rust until driven, but the inside edges where the pads don't touch should stay rust free.
That's all the help I can offer, because I know nothing about these rotors because I use OEM only due to tracking.

Granny, I was going to suggest the most fool-proof way to prevent rust on your brake disks (coat them with a liberal amount of heavy grease), but you're too nice a person. HPH

And Go, I like your paint job. That's the way I'm leaning right now. I saw paint for up to 1500 degrees on that site. How easy is it to do yourself? Not that I can.
[QUOTE=Grannyrod,Feb 6 2008, 02:29 PM] I guess I can't really appreciate how hot brakes and rotors and calipers really get since I don't race, although I did smell something when I was on the track at Watkins Glen and Beaver Run (nevermind that I never got over 50mph, Matt, I was still braking hard
I edited my post...you were in front, so you wouldn't have.
The rest of us sure did, though - all of a sudden on the radios, "What's that smell???!!!" Poor Granny...I'll let her fill you in if you weren't there. Ah...the good old days.

Granny, unless you want to spend more time sitting on a donut I would not recommend putting grease, WD40, or anything else on the rotors that might compromise what they are intended to do - stop the car by friction of cleanest and dryest metal you can have. That's why they sell Brake Cleaner. I would love to hear the counter arguements for other positions.

Leave it to you to remember the donut.

OK, I wasn't sure you realized that.
(remind me to kill Doc next time I see him) I notice that the guys in another forum talking about what a pain it is to do so I guess I'll have to farm the painting job out when I get ready.
Trip, Chris from SP e-mailed me with prices (pusing $200/pr) but he made it sound like they just put nickel plating on regular rotors for an extra $35. Now I've got to compare that with what someone would charge me to paint the ones I have. Who the heck told me to become a wanabe car nut? Do I LOOK like my name is Dashy?
