There is no new car for $30K that compares to an S2000. If I was looking for a new sports car I could be tempted to spend $30K on a low mileage, pristine used car. I wouldn't preserve it hoping to make money though. It would be driven, same as a new one.

 

Agree. Our thought however, was we would be spending 30K on a car that was 8,9,10 years old and we would be dishing out more than when the car was new. Even with low mileage, stuff can break. Who knows the availability of parts down the line. We too would not have bought the vehicle to preserve it. So we went with the P car, and the original owner took the hit in depreciation. The extra room and creature comforts in the P care are much appreciated on our road trips. We are glad we did keep the S as it's still a whole lot of fun! Hoping the S lasts until we can no longer get in/out of it.

 

We could debate if the actual S2000 is appreciating but the 1/18 scale models appear to be.
I had one of the original Miasto $12 models back when.
Somehow it disappeared, So I check on Ebay and they are going for 70-80 bucks...

If this is an early indicator we're gonna rich boys rich I tell ya.

 

Guess I sold my S2000 model collection too soon. With 76 models I needed the shelf space.

IMHO. the S2000 has flattened and will stay there for a while.

One the plus side, it's a unique and rewarding experience for us "drivers" that own them and more S2000s are being wrecked and molested

But, we are dying out and with few people even driving stick, and nannies proliferating fewer will even know how to enjoy them.

My plan is too enjoy it and keep it stock, my kids may enjoy it as they both drive stick. One the other hand, my new grandson may never actually drive a car.

That one is not a CR, just has a hardtop and Laguna Blue which is a base model colour. If I am looking at the same ad?

I hope the link below brings you to the BAT sales graph for S2000s. If so, click on the data points and you will go to the page for each auction. You will see that the super low mileage time capsules are bringing prices equal to MSRP when new. The cars with regular mileage are half that price or less. A 2003 92K mile example went for $10K. So if you put yours in a bubble when new and never drove it you can celebrate the fact that you have not lost money on your original investment, just the cost to keep and insure it for the last 10 years. That's better than most cars I suppose.
