Default S2000 Windshield

I know a lot of people have complained about the S2000 windshield being "cheap" and that it chips so easily. Well, I had mine replaced today by Harmon Autoglass and I asked the installer if there were different grades or qualities of glass. He said, "no". He did say however, that in the past few years ALL auto glass has gotten MUCH thinner. He gave me the thickness measurements (used to be vs. now) but I don't remember the specifics. It was significant however. I specifically said, "so then it's not just Honda?" and he replied, "no". Hope this helps. P.S. Cost of new windshield was over $500. Praise Allah for insurance.

The aerodynamics of the car seem to play a big part, though - I recall an old Car & Driver article where they drove a number of sedans up along the Alaskan highway. Parts of the road are gravel, and they noticed that every single car ended up with many windsheild dings except for the Audi, which was completely untouched. I suspect our S has aerodynamics that attracts stones.

That, or the lower hood line compared to other cars causes rocks bouncing off from lead vehicles to impact the windshield, and not other panels e.g bumper or grill as it would on a higher car or truck.

I've always thought that it had to do with the "rake" of the S2000 windshield. Our glass seem to be a lot more verical than on most other sports cars. It has struck me as being very curious that Jeep YJ's and TJ's are the worst in terms of having cracked and chipped windshields.

The guy from Harmon Autoglass commented the same things as Jonas and xviper. The car is low profile, the aerodynamics are such that it is more prone to this, and the windshield stands straighter up than others.

All Honda glass seems to be marked with the Honda logo and some other details. I looked but must have missed it.

WHERE is this marking on the front window?

I may have mine changed in the spring and I'm curious where this is so I can be sure to verify what is being installed.

That seems pretty high. I got hit by a rock kicked up from an RV I was following. Had it "repaired" for about $75. Not perfect, but I hope it keeps it from spreading, and I can't see it because it's right behind my rear view mirror. At the same time, I got the windshield on my full-sized pick-up replaced. It only cost $174.40 (tax, et al.) Safelite Auto Glass was the company, and the guy came to my house to do the work. USAA paid for the S2K, repairs being covered without a deductible. Did you get hosed because you live in Ohio, or because it was "an import?"

When I asked, an S2000 windshield costs $850.00 Canadian. This includes the manditory $150.00 installation kit. Yes, it does cost THAT much.
