There is a remarkable amount of information out there.
there are basics we think everyone should know.
How many folks are there out there that can't read or write?
Add subtract multiply and divide?
geography? how about knowing your own major highways in your own state?
is the world flat? many think so.

Wasn’t the Nova Scotia made by Chevy?

I honestly see two sides to this.

People in the where its happening that are always on top of whats happening think they are the brightest and the best. They know it all. They see it all.

The couple old dudes in the UP (you do know where that is?) who probably couldn't give a damn where New Mexico was or is but would be there if you were lost in the UP (you do know where that is?) could tell you exactly where you were and where to go.

What I've always found true is that the smartest people do not have to prove they are and they don't put down people to prove it. As for the educational system; just look back at history - - the things that were written and the way they were expressed. Has anyone in recent history topped that?

And I wasn't trying to call you out. Re-reading it now it comes across like that but my comment wasn't meant that way. My comment was in reference to the whole idea of the entire thread. It is easy to think that everyone should know certain stuff; i.e. geography. But often its just a matter of where a person's interests are or are not.

i do agree with you and thank you for clearing that up with me. Maybe at spring fling I can buy you a drink

There me a movie quote I hear once that seems very true. How smart you are depends on where you where raised and where you are standing at the time
