I don't think his capture will stop the hatred some terrorists harbor for Americans wherever they are nor can I take much comfort in his capture when there are already so many terrorists right here in the United States and across the border in Canada ready to die for their cause.

I hope you guys don't mind a non-American opinion in this thread.

I tend to agree with ralpher. I think that the capture of Saddam and the eventual capture of BinLaden will break the cycle of violence that seems to be the norm in the region. But the current cycle has a lifespan to run out. The current generation MAY be so tainted that it may need another generation to dwindle. The big question in my mind is - how to protect the next generation for the prejudices of the existing one? Seeing the images of the rejoicing of SOME people after terrible events such as 911 really tells me that the hatred is deep. The next generation must be saved from this hatred, but I am at a loss on how America or the World can do this.... I hope I am wrong...

I really don't care about Saddam or any of that B.S. But It will have an affect on the Markets. The economy has been showing some strong signs lately but the Iraq issue has been restricting the rally somewhat. His capture will help wall street. Today is wed. 12/17/03 the third business day after his capture. So far the market seems to be on a roll.

We are a capitlaist country and what affects my wallet affects my life in many ways. So yes it affects me and the portfolio.

To me Iraq and Saddam are not worth one American life.

The good news is that certain U.S. companies are going to gain a lot of Iraq reconstruction business, paid for by Iraqi oil. This could help our economy a great deal (at the expense of the Iraqi economy but who cares about them?)
Mistake... paid for by the tax payers of America lets just get a bigger deficit.

Haliburton is the biggest winner in this whole mess.

Psychologically, I think it's important. It signifies to the Iraqi people he is not coming back to power, and it is gratifying to see such a tyrant held responsible for his crimes. However, I think it is far more important to capture OBL.

The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.

-- GW Bush, September 13, 2001

This promise, made 2 days after 3000 innocent citizens were killed, is stunningly forgotten.

Regarding attacks on US troops in Iraq, subsequently our president has said:
"There are some who feel like that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is bring them on."
President Bush

Teddy Roosevelt must be spinning in his grave. Speak softly and carry a big stick indeed...

The capture of Saddam only brings me to my next question...how does such a person get tried for such treacherous acts against humanity?
How are we going to find a way to convict him in a court now without exposing our own hypocrisies in the matter? Obviously we don't want an international court to do this. Would it not just have been easier to have shot and killed the bastard?
Just a few thoughts that keep crossing my mind as I see article after article in the media...
