Safes
More and more people are purchasing safes to put their personal items and cash. A neighbor bought a huge, what they call Executive safe. It seems out of place, it's just too large and I believe could be a tempting target. Any security people here or anyone with ideas on what would make sense in a home.
not a security guy but...you know what they say about opinions.
If I were to put in a safe the first aspect I'd look at is fire rating.
Probably a much higher risk than theft.
ANY SAFE can be breached if given the time.
Some years ago, my sister had a big safe at her work get breached by what they called a wrap job.
They basically pealed back the layers with torches.
They figured it took the guys 18 hours to do it.

I have a "Sentry" fire safe, when our housed burned down, it survived
pretty much intact. I had my Rolex, my grandfather's railroad watch
birth certificate's, car titles.....ect. It all came thru fine. There not very
expencive, and worth every penny.

Ours is a two drawer file cabinet type. It must weigh a couple of hundred pounds so not much worry about someone carrying it away without a forklift. We have it sitting in the basement so if we do have a fire it will not fall through a floor and bust.
I think cost was around $400 at one of the office supply stores. Might have been Office Depot or Staples.
Ours is a Sentry 7250 floor safe which is mounted between floor joists in a spare closet. It sits just below floor level and is covered with a carpeted hatch that used to serve as access to the underside of the house.
