Sensor cleaning on your cameras? Do you do it yourself?

Lainey, just tell Rick to clean it up for you.

Lainey, I (nervously) do it myself.... pretty much like the video in Gary's post. I only 'wet' clean when everything else fails. I have tried to minimize the frequency of lens changes by pretty much keeping the 70-200 lens on the SLR and carrying a Canon G1X Mk II for the times when a bit more flexibility is needed. The G1X has very good glass, and also excellent wide angle capabilities.

Poor Lainey, she now must nervously decide upon a professional cleaning that may take weeks and $ to complete, or learn to do it herself...a simple task There are many ill-advised posts here, but all are in humor. Emery cloth cleanings and power washes are never a solution with a camera that has > 12mp sensor Good luck, Lainey.

Yes, both of my posts were meant to be humor. I have no doubt the Lainey is far smarter than anyone that would consider emery cloth, pressure washing, Windex, paper towels or Plexus.

Generally my 18-200 is my "go to" lens, but now that I like to take bird photos, I want the 100-400 on my newer camera, so I do switch out the lenses often...oh and then the flowers bloom and I want the macro lens. I sent the newer camera out today and I may send the older one out for the $49.00 sensor clean. A guy not far from home charges $69.00 and I'd still have to ship it. Another place will do more of a general check up along with sensor clean but that was $150.00 with a 4-5 week turn around. I'm going to pass on that as the only issue with the camera is the spots, and only at the higher fstop numbers.
Oh the newer camera has a 24mp sensor, so maybe it's a big more rugged and I could have used the Windex and emery cloth..............

Lainey, for changing lenses, I keep a lot of camera/rear lens caps around. To keep dust and other goombas away from the insides.

We tried getting the sensor of our D70 cleaned but it was cost prohibitive.
The D700 has a vibrating element to shake itself clean.
