Shoes
Shoes...I'm sure we have lots of them, the women probably have more than the men.
Here's a question. How long do you keep your shoes? Do you wear them out and toss them out? Do you toss them out/give them away when they are no longer stylish? Do you wear them out and possibly have a repair done, i.e. new heels? We still have a shoe repair guy in the city, but he's one of very few left.
I'm not that rough on my shoes. I've got a few pair of casual shoes that I've had for years. They are comfortable and I still see similar ones in the store, so I guess they are stylish enough. I've had new heels put on one pair. I polish them regularly too, so they don't look beat up. I've got plenty of shoes, including a pair of high heels and a pair of fancy sandals, but those rarely come out of the closet. I look around for new shoes now and again, but I can't find any I like, or that are comfortable.
I don't like to buy shoes and "break them in." I want them comfortable from day one.
Maybe you rarely wear shoes and wear sneakers/athletic shoes all the time? Rick wears sneakers almost all the time. He rarely wears shoes and has to dust off the ancient ones in his closet when shoes are required. He has sneakers for yard work, car washing, exercise, "dress" sneakers, etc. I have one style sneaker I like and have been lucky finding them every year.
So what's on your feet?

Funny you should bring up shoes. I wear my New Balance walking shoes most of the time. Recently, I had to go to something more formal and I found out that my wingtips no longer fit. I couldn't get the shoes on my feet. I had to buy a new pair of shoes.
Dress/casual shoes I pretty much keep until they wear out which is pretty much never. I've probably got 30 or so pair of dress and work shoes.
Tennis shoes and flip flops get replaced annually at least.

I have quite a few pairs of shoes still, although I've given away lots. I definitely fix the ones I can't replace that I really want to keep. Recently, I ordered a second pair of black sandals I've been wearing all summer to work and out. And I ordered two more pairs of canvas shoes I really like which can't be fixed once they wear out. The sandal heels can maybe be fixed. They are pretty worn already.
great minds think alike.
I was thinking along similar lines but on types of shoes.
specifically sporting shoes, I've got;
2 or more pairs of golf shoes, (never get rid of a set you might want later)
2 pairs of biking shoes, ( road and mountain)
bowling shoes,
soccer cleats ( should probably donate those)
ski boots,
at least 2 pairs of hiking boots,
tennis shoes ( although I have swung a racket in anger in longer than I can remember)
running shoes ( maybe someday
),
a couple sets of boat shoes, ( their comfortable, but have never seen a boat except on TV),
sandals,
and then of course the obligatory dress shoes.
My favorite dress shoes are EB Whites who went out of business some 10-15 years ago.
hand made, they are still my favorite shoe.

I have tons of shoes, but mostly I just wear flip flops. I have 7 or 8 pairs of dress shoes in boxes that I dust off from time to time but the shoes almost never come out of the box. For dress up I wear sandals. Shoes are not as important to me as they once were.
Interesting answers. Raymo you surprise me, Dean you do not. I'd bet you put those shoes on kicking, screaming and swearing.
Summer means wearing sandals, but it gets too cold for exposed tootsies before long. As a matter of fact, I'm wearing shoes AND socks today.
I did find one pair of shoes in my travels today. They are comfortable, and casual, but not as casual as sneakers. I think I would break an ankle if I wore many of the new style shoes that are out there.
As far as sneakers, I wear cross trainers. Not sure what I'm training for.
